The Erie County Legislature unanimously approved the new Buffalo Bills stadium lease on Thursday, May 4th. This deal has been years in the making, but with this final vote, construction can finally begin on the new stadium set to be ready for the 2026 season. University at Buffalo School of Law (UB) students have been following the entire transaction process for almost 3 years now. Under Professor Helen “Nellie” Drew, the director of the UB Center for the Advancement of Sport, students have been hard at work assisting in extensive research and document production to give the public a summary of a very complex transaction. These documents are meant to benefit anyone who wants to learn more about the new stadium deal by getting the most important information concisely summarized instead of looking through pages and pages of complex legal documents. Law students have created summaries of the new 30-year lease, financial commitments from each party, the community benefits agreement, environmental aspects of the new stadium, a comparison of public sector obligations of the new lease versus the current one, a cost/benefit analysis of the new lease terms, and answers to frequently asked questions, or FAQs.
