Arians, Brady, Gronkowski and now….Sherman?

Richard Sherman has received various offers this year despite his past injuries in 2020 and his criminal charges over the summer. Sherman was in talks with the Seattle Seahawks, the San Fransisco 49ers, the Carolina Panthers, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Today, Richard Sherman officially revealed on his podcast, The Richard Sherman Podcast, where he’s going to play this season. “I have made a decision, I am going to play for the Tamp Bay Buccaneers. Wahooo!!” Sherman ended up signing a one-year deal worth up to $2.25 million.

How would you feel if Tom Brady reached out to you and asked if you would be his teammate? I think anyone getting a call from one of the best, if not the best, quarterback of all time would have the same reaction as Sherman that it was “a very difficult opportunity to pass up.”

“Q: What impact did Tom Brady have on this decision for you?

A: He reached out initially and just checked to see if I was in-shape. Him and I have had a relationship over the years and he’s a great guy. Very encouraging. Obviously we had our history but what happens on the field stays on the field. Off the field we have a very solid relationship. We both thought it would be really cool if we had an opportunity at some point to play together. “

Brady and Sherman seemed to have repaired their relationship after the U Mad Bro? incident.

Brady told Sherman that he wanted to play with him. Following that conversation, the front office reached out to him when they lost key players due to injury. As the season progressed and more injuries occurred to the Bucs star players, it looked more likely that Brady and Sherman would actually play together. Sherman believes that he fits the Bucs defensive scheme very wel,l even though it is a blitz heavy style with man-coverage formation which is different from what he has played in the past. He said that he is excited to play for Arians and his aggressive style.

Can Sherman help to carry the Bucs secondary to a Super Bowl win in 2022? Only time will tell. According to the NFL Power Rankings from ESPN.com, the LA Rams are in first place, the Bucs are in second place, and our own Buffalo Bills are in third place. Will the reigning Super Bowl Champs make their way back up to number 1 now that they have Sherman? Allen, Diggs, Sanders, and Hughes on the Bills and Stafford, Ramsey, Donald and Kupp on the Rams are going to work their hardest to not let there be a repeat Super Bowl victory for the Bucs.
